Join me on this journey

Hi! My name is Susan Peithman and I'm a transportation professional in Oregon.  I'm one of five professionals participating in a University of Oregon study abroad course in Denmark in late June of 2022. This blog is a journal of my experiences and reflections as well as musings about the application of the policy, planning and design in the American context.

Specifics on my professional background - I'm a manager at the Oregon Department of Transportation in the Public Transportation Division. I manage two groups of professionals that work on walking, biking and transit policy, funding programs and implementation strategies. I have over over eighteen years of experience working on improving walking, biking and public transportation access. I've worked in a number of different realms in the field including advocacy, consulting, municipal, and academic work before working in state government.  My professional experience ranges from designing and implementing programs that encourage people to walk, bike and use transit more often – to policy and legislation that supports healthy and active communities – to management of large federal grants that fund research on livable communities.
